Essay 3 : Hari Raya Festival

Hari Raya Puasa will be celebrated by the Muslims after one month of fasting. Me and family as a Muslim, Hari Raya Puasa is a special day to celebrate after they have gone through fasting for a month from foods and drinks from Subuh until Maghrib. This festival will be celebrated for a month either. In Malaysia, we can see the Muslims early prepared for the becoming special day. They decorates their house, buying new clothes, and making many types of food and cookies for the special day. We can see that the shopping complex, groceries, and other shop will be crowded by the Muslims as they were preparing to celebrate Hari Raya Puasa. For me, Hari Raya Puasa is a common thing now because the enjoyment of this raya only feels when I was a little boy. I take Hari Raya Puasa as a small festive because for now, the important thing for me is to discover a lot of new thing including my study but it doesn’t mean that I'm forgetting or not celebrating this festival . We can only celebrate it as a normal festival.

The night before the special day arrived my family and I , as usual a lot of activities happen same as the other festival. I can see my parent and my grandmother will busy making delicious food, while the my little brother were enjoying themselve playing fire crackers with other family members. The house which is located far from the town especially, which is a village, will be decorated with what we called `pelita’ around the house. It has been found that such activities is a legacy. Pelita is made up from bamboo stick actually, but nowadays people had invented a new kind of pelita which is made from plastic that is safe to used.

Furthermore, I can see a lot of delicious, variety and mouth watering food when the festival arrived. For example, the main menu for Muslims is ketupat, lemang, and other food that will make someone have a big intention to eat. There are also delicious hand-made biscuits or cakes. We will be able to discovered all kinds of food when we go to other people or our family members house. During Raya, someone will be able to gain weight drastically due to the intake of lots of variety food. Trust me. Moreover, there must be an event that we called an open house that will be held by the Muslims. The event helps to strengthen the relationship between family members after not seeing each other for a long period of time and between Malaysians in order to achieve the 1 Malaysia that has been planned by our Prime Minister. I also can see people with different kind of races will be visiting their Muslims neighbours house to celebrate together the special day. I hope that Malaysian people can maintain that style.

Lastly, as I can see Muslims celebrate their festival that is Hari Raya with a lot of joy and colorful day, same goes with other festival. Every festival have their own speciality. I hope that from the coming years, Hari Raya Puasa will be celebrated more happening as I’ve done my job as a student. Aminn.

Essay 2 : My destiny…..

I believe that Business Studies is the key to successful career development in modern society. It is a subject which particularly interests me, because of its relevance to current economic issues and the potential it provides for employment in many areas. During my Diploma Business Management course I have particularly enjoyed investigating the structure of organisations and the factors which contribute to successful business practice. This is of special interest to me as my ambition for the future is to one day start my own business. I have learnt that successful business practice and management can be creative and inspirational. However, it must be founded in a firm understanding of business principle and underlying disciplines within the broader social and economic context.

During my semester break, I work as part-time sales agent for a well-known television station which is Astro .My training and duties at out door have given me valuable insights into the company’s marketing and business practice. There is a need for any corporation to undertake constant evaluation and development in order to compete at all levels. I have also been trained to take on additional responsibility in a supervisory position. This helped me to develop communication and organisational skills and to conduct myself in a professional manner within the work environment and also learn how to convince people.

In my spare time I enjoy sporting activities such as tennis and football and I play for a Saturday league team. In my first year at Malcca I also played for my UiTM football team and we were successful in winning the overall Universities team cup. I also interested to play badminton and snooker regularly.

Essay 1 : My First Day In Work

life...
First day of work. For everyone this is one of the most important days in their lives. But unfortunately for me, it was totally disaster. I was late. Can you imagine being late for the first day of work. I was supposed to be there at 8 but I woke up at 8.20. I didn't even took my bath. After that, I rushed downstairs and start the car.

Unfortunately, luck was not on my side. the car wouldn't start. I then ask my neighbour if I could borrow his car. He gave it to me but reminded me not to speed. I only nodded to what he is saying but literally i didn't hear it. haha. As I was driving along the highway, I saw two childrens waving at me as I was speeding my way to work. I was kind of hazy and confused but eventually I waved to them back. I then saw a group of motorcyclist making immature moves on the highway. They even showed middle fingers to people who stares at them. I was furios, so I drove as fast as I could to keep up to them. I then return them a favour if you know what I mean.

After that, i sped through the traffic and crash every traffic light there is. i arrive at the office at approximately 8.50. as I arrived, my boss stood in front of me and gave me the 'look'. Then he scold me right in front of everyone in the office. I'll never forget this day for the rest of my life.
this goes to everyone including me myself. The secretary has given me a briefing of what to do and what to expect next week. Loads of work and some stuff that I’ve never even done before (it includes things like sending mails via couriers, I’m nervous…don’t laugh :P).
Right after work, I went home just in time to find banana sundae! Dessert was awesome, thank you. After that, I went to KL to attend a relative’s wedding dinner. Always never fail to give me the giddy feelings..

Article 3 :How to manage stress???

Banish the hold stress has over your life with these smart, stress-coping strategies.Stress poses a significant threat to Americans’ health. A recent National Consumers League survey of 1,074 adults found that 80 percent of Americans report feeling stressed out. The survey also revealed that women are more likely than men to suffer from stress, including adverse physical symptoms, such as headache. Americans rated work, family, and health as the three biggest sources of stress. Despite the fact that it’s normal to experience the everyday hassles and pressures that come with juggling a job and family, stress, especially intense or long-term stress, can be dangerous to your health. Stress robs your body of essential minerals, vitamins, and nutrients and suppresses your immune system, leaving you vulnerable to infections, colds, and flu. Studies show that people who report suffering from moderate stress are more likely to die from heart attack, stroke, and cancer.Although it may be impossible to completely eliminate stress from your life, the good news is there are several stress-management strategies you can adopt today to reduce your stress levels and insulate your body from the harmful effects of stress.Types of StressThe first step to reduce stress in your life is to identify which form of stress plagues you. The three main types of stress are:AcuteEpisodic AcuteChronicAcute stress has an immediate onset, instantly throwing the body into crisis-control mode. In an acutely stressful situation, such as a minor traffic accident, a looming deadline at work, or an argument with your spouse or loved one, you are assessing the stressor and developing the best strategy for solving the problem. The second type of stress is episodic acute. An example of this form of stress includes ongoing worry about finances, work, etc. It also encompasses “Type A” behavior, which is characterized by competitive drive, anger or impatience with others, and the need to attain personal perfection in all tasks. Studies show that Type-A individuals are more prone to heart attack compared to those who are more calm. The third type of stress is chronic, which simply means it’s an ongoing, unrelenting form of stress. Examples of situations that contribute to chronic stress are job and family pressures, sleep deprivation, and strained roles at work or at home. Chronic stress, because it is an unrelenting form of stress, poses the most serious risk to your health and should be addressed immediately. The Negative Effects of StressStress can wreak havoc on your health. When you are under pressure, your body reacts by releasing adrenaline. Adrenaline increases your heart rate and blood pressure, causes your muscles to tense, and slows your digestion. This physical response prepares the body to respond to the stressor in one of two ways: to either confront the problem or find a way to escape it. Hans Selye, a well-known stress researcher, referred to this as the “Fight or Flight” response. But there is another serious effect that stress has on the body. When your body’s adrenal glands release hormones such as cortisol and norepinephrine, these hormones instantly mobilize and use electrolytes and nutrients such as magnesium, potassium, B-vitamins, vitamins C, and amino acids. One of the minerals the body uses the most during stress is magnesium. When your body releases adrenaline, it simultaneously releases magnesium. Magnesium helps the muscles, including the heart, contract and relax, it creates energy for the body, and it helps buffer some of the jarring effects of adrenaline. If you experience stress, especially chronic stress, it’s important to replenish your body’s store of magnesium and other essential nutrients. If you don’t, you may be putting your health at risk. “If you experience stress, especially chronic stress, it’s important to replenish your body’s store of magnesium and other essential nutrients. If you don’t, you may be putting your health at risk.”Anti-Stress NutrientsHere are some important anti-stress nutrients: Magnesium - According to Carolyn Dean, M.D., N.D., magnesium limits the stress response by reducing the excitability of the nervous system. A study of workers in a high-noise environment and students preparing for their final exams found that those who took 6-7 milligrams of magnesium per kilogram of body weight did not experience increases in blood pressure that typically occurred during these times. Zinc - Zinc plays an important role in boosting your body’s immune defenses. Studies show that zinc levels decline rapidly during acute and chronic stress.Vitamin C - This essential vitamin acts as a powerful antioxidant and positively affects the immune system. Studies also show that vitamin C (in large doses) may reduce increases in blood pressure that are common during periods of high stress.B-Complex - B-vitamins are necessary for a number of functions including energy production, metabolism, and nerve function. During stress, B-vitamins, in addition to magnesium, are quickly mobilized and used.Herbs – For years, herbalists have used chamomile, hops, skullcap, valerian, and wood betony to help calm and soothe nervous tension. Lifestyle ModificationsIn addition to certain nutritional supplements, eating a balanced diet and adopting an exercise regimen can also be extremely beneficial in reducing stress. Here are four important tips:1. Make the Most of the Foods You Eat. If you’re under a lot of strain, it’s important—now more than ever—to eat balanced, healthy meals and snacks. That means eating breakfast every morning and eating a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Not only do whole foods and grains provide you with essential vitamins and minerals, but they’ll give you a long-lasting energy boost so you can combat stress.2. Say No to Junk Food. Fat and sugar-laden treats are convenient and tempting when you’re under a lot of pressure, but they don’t provide any nutrients and, worst of all, these foods can actually make you feel worse in the long run. During times of stress, pamper your body by eating nutrient-dense foods. That means saying goodbye to candies, chips, and cookies and opting instead for more nutritious snacks like fresh or dried fruit, a handful of raw nuts, or a few crackers topped with peanut butter.3. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise. Although exercise may be the last thing you feel like doing when you’re stressed, studies show it improves mood in addition to controlling your weight. But exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous or boring. Take a friend or spouse along for a 20-minute walk. Talk to him or her about your problems and feelings and develop strategies to alleviate stressful situations while you both burn calories. 4. Let Go of Unproductive Worry and Unrealistic Expectations. Incessant worry and unrealistic expectations of ourselves are a major source of internal conflict. During a less-stressful quiet moment, make the decision that from now on you will dismiss internal fears and worries and let go of unrealistic expectations. Develop a mantra or statement you can repeat to yourself so that when worries about problems or what others may think arise, you can break the hold negative thoughts and beliefs have of you. One example of a positive statement: “This thought/belief is harmful to me. It’s not productive or healthy for me to think/feel this way, so I am letting it go.”Stress Management: A Holistic Approach.Stress may be an unavoidable fact of life in modern society. But adopting a holistic approach to stress that includes exercise, a balanced diet, supplementation of essential nutrients, and letting go of incessant worry and unrealistic expectations will help you release the intense internal pressure you are feeling. It will also help you fight off the physical effects of stress that can be harmful to your health.

Article 2 :An Operating System

Bits: Would You Miss Windows With a Google Operating System? (July 8, 2009)Bits: Does Being Free Cheapen Google’s Brand? (July 8, 2009)Announcement From Google (googleblog.blogspot.com)

The software, called the Google Chrome Operating System, is initially intended for use in the tiny, low-cost portable computers known as netbooks, which have been selling quickly even as demand for other PCs has plummeted. Google said it believed the software would also be able to power full-size PCs.The move is likely to sharpen the already intense competition between Google and Microsoft, whose Windows operating system controls the basic functions of the vast majority of personal computers.“Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS,” said Sundar Pichai, vice president of product management, and Linus Upson, engineering director, in a post on a company blog. “We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the Web in a few seconds.”Mr. Pichai and Mr. Upson said that the software would be released online later this year under an open-source license, which would allow outside programmers to modify it. Netbooks running the software will go on sale in the second half of 2010.The company likely saw netbooks as a unique opportunity to challenge Microsoft, said Larry Augustin, a prominent Silicon Valley investor who serves on the board of a number of open-source software companies.“Market changes happen at points of discontinuity,” Mr. Augustin said. “And that’s what you have with netbooks and a market that has moved to mobile devices.”But while Google has deep pockets and a vast reach, it is in for a difficult battle when it comes to challenging Microsoft in the operating system market. Many companies have tried this over the years, with little success.Google’s plans for the new operating system fit its Internet-centric vision of computing. Google believes that software delivered over the Web will play an increasingly central role, replacing software programs that run on the desktop. In that world, applications run directly inside an Internet browser, rather than atop an operating system, the standard software that controls most of the operations of a PC.That vision challenges not only Microsoft’s lucrative Windows business but also its applications business, which is built largely on selling software than runs on PCs.Google said Chrome OS will have a minimalist user interface, leaving most space on the screen to applications.“All Web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite Web technologies,” the company said.Google has already developed an open-source operating system called Android that is used in mobile phones. The software is also being built into netbooks by several manufacturers. But Google has not encouraged netbook makers to use Android. The company appears to be positioning Chrome OS as its preferred operating system for netbooks, though it said competition between the two systems would likely drive innovation.“It makes total sense,” Mr. Augustin said. “Android wasn’t really meant for netbooks.”Google had planned to unveil the project on Wednesday but moved up the announcement after receiving inquiries from The New York Times, which reported the company’s plans on its Web site late Tuesday. Ars Technica, a technology news site, also reported the outlines of Google’s plan late Tuesday.Google released Chrome last year, describing it as not only a Web browser but also a tool to let users interact with powerful Web programs like Gmail, Google Docs and online applications created by other companies. Since then, Google has been adding features to Chrome, like the ability to run such applications even when a user is not connected to the Internet.Google said Tuesday night that it still had work to do to develop a full-fledged operating system. In a recent interview, Marc Andreessen, who created the first commercial Web browser and co-founded Netscape, said Chrome itself was already well along that path.“Chrome is basically a modern operating system,” Mr. Andreessen said. The first wave of netbooks relied on various versions of the open-source Linux operating system, and major PC makers like Hewlett-Packard and Dell have backed the Linux software. Intel, the world’s largest chip maker, has worked on developing a Linux-based operating system called Moblin as well. The company has aimed the software at netbooks and smartphones in a bid to spur demand for its Atom mobile device chip.To combat these efforts, Microsoft began offering its older Windows XP operating system for use on netbooks at a low price. In addition, the company has vowed that its upcoming Windows 7 software, due out this fall, will run well on the tiny laptops, which have stood out as the brightest part of the PC market during the global economic downturn. Microsoft’s current Vista operating system is designed for more powerful machines.

Article 1 :Who am I today???

Keeping track of the various roles I play helps keep my head in order and prevent that feeling of being torn into a thousand tiny pieces. Every so often, usually during my version of a weekly review, I flip to an empty page in my notebook and make a list of roles: step-father, partner, teacher, anthropologist, employee, writer, son, friend, brother, brother-in-law,nephew, uncle, citizen. It helps to see it all spelled out like that, and writing it down helps me focus on what I’m accomplishing and what my goals are for each role. It might seem obvious, but each role we play has different goals, different standards of achievement. As an employee, I’m concerned with making enough money to pay our bills and but our groceries, a step-father I have to leave those concerns aside so I can get on with the business of parenting:encouraging, nurturing, sometimes disciplining, and so on. Likewise, as a teacher, I am constantly measuring my student’s performance and growth, while as I partner I am devoted to appreciating my girlfriend’s many fine qualities as well as her faults.
Here’s an example of how I think about some of my roles and what each entails:

  • Partner: to build a lasting and loving relationship; to openly communicate my feelings and worries; to plan household budgets and chores.

  • Teacher: to encourage the development of critical thinking, writing, studying, and research skills; to help students develop a sense of themselves as citizens and of their place in society; to assess students’ growth and give them guidance where necessary.

  • Anthropologist: to carry out research and communicate my findings to other members of my discipline and to the public; to encourage more informed attitudes about cultural similarity and difference in my society and in my students.

  • Step-father: to offer support and encouragement to my step-children; to make sure their physical and emotional needs are met on a day-to-day basis; to share my values and dreams with my step-children and help them to articulate their own.

  • Writer: to communicate effectively with my audience; to build my audience and seek out new markets for my work; to manage my submissions, payments due and received, tax paperwork, etc. (Technically, “writer” is two roles: one as a person sitting in front of a computer or notepad and writing for others to read, and the other as a person managing his business I could call that second role “manager” or “entrepreneur”, but I don’t feel like either of those things.)

  • Brother: to offer friendship and support; to lend a hand when needed; to be an uncle to his children.
